how and where it began

'Darcey' Folkerts ~ CEO Started A Womans Touch Painting and Decorating in 1972, developing her own 'style', and solving customer fears of color and finishes with a satisfaction guarantee

Darcey was born and spent her childhood in Garner Iowa,

that would be the small town

just past the third corn field on the left

outside Mason City Iowa.

Darcey got married just out of high school

and had two wonderful children.

She worked at Winnebago

as a quality control manager

on the third shift ('YUCK'),

so she would be home for the children during the day

freshly divorced,

and a single mother of two children

she came to Chicago in 1972,

knowing she had to come to a more populated area

to follow her life dream and passion

of painting and making peoples dreams become reality.

Darcey struggled in the 70's

operating A Womans Touch Painting and Decorating

in a predominently male orientated industry.

She knew she had to do something different to compete.

Thus the 'Darcey'

personality, quality and customer service

approach to painting and decorating

was born under the name

'A Womans Touch Painting and Decorating'
